Company History
Chips for Chicks Ltd is an affiliated company of T.O.M Musson Agri Ltd. Chip for Chicks was born from Issy, selling their wood chip product on social media during her maternity leave and during the Covid pandemic of 2020. Timothy had recently purchased a commercial MusMax woodchipper and encouraged her to try selling this online as chicken pen bedding, which she did and soon found a huge enjoyment and enrichment in selling a good quality, helpful product to like-minded people. Then just like that, Chips for Chicks Ltd the business was born!
Soon she was making enough sales and orders for deliveries every weekend. Over time Tim has won contracts with more poultry companies such as Duffield’s feed and Easichic bedding, so that they have more poultry supplies to proudly add to the list! If you are wanting to start ordering your poultry supplies from a locally sourced, reliable, farming family business – this is the one! You wont get better products or service.
Product Overview
Our woodchips are the best for animal pens. They are very durable, but also comfortable for chicken’s feet. It is breathable and encourages insects and worms, which the chickens enjoy eating and playing with.
Other commercial woodchip is general arb chip, created from tree surgeons, but is mostly very wet and leafy wastage and therefor creates a very soggy, mulchy chicken pen very quickly. So requires regular cleaning out and changing. Or other B grade chip (from commercial sellers) can also sometimes be treated with chemicals and then stored in damp outside areas for long periods of time.
Chips for Chicks
Our wood chip, however, is freshly chipped forestry whole-tree-chip, produced by our very own wood chipper on-site and stored in our large airy covered barn. This is where our chip is then naturally dried to the perfect moisture level, sold & transported to our lovely chicken keeping customers.
Another benefit is that because we naturally dry the chips in loose piles in our barn (no heat or chemical by-products are used), this encourages a thriving insect community within the wood chips themselves, which the chickens will absolutely love! Kiln-dried woodchips will kill any bugs and naturally habitant creepy crawlies / chicken treats off altogether.
